Our family was looking for a small piece of land to house our little travel trailer. We had been pulling the trailer to various spots in Ontario for a few years. Dad thought if we had a permanent place it would make life easier.

So the search began. Seeing an ad for property for sale north of Kingston, Mom and Dad headed out to take a look.
It was much more land than they looking for, but the property had four very rustic cottages.
By rustic I mean no hydro and no plumbing, each cottage was heated by a wood stove.

This property was on 14 Island Lake, My parents fell in love, with the property, they were already in love with each other, and the rest is history.

During the completion of the sale, Mr Huffman, the seller mentioned that he had been renting some of the cottages for years and  that some of the cottagers had been promised a spot for the coming year. Mom and Dad looked at each other, said “ it’s only one year, how hard can it be?”

Forty years later we are still welcoming the families and extended  families of those first renters.

Our land has seen weddings, a submerged Jeep, five generations, fishing retreats, family reunions  and a memory wall for those who have left us.

The sun sparkles on the water, the turtles bask on the logs and the water lilies reach for the sky.

Life begins at 14 island Lake.
